2020 Annual meeting of the Global Network for Road Safety Legislators held as a pre-event in Stockholm, Sweden at the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety

Members of Parliament and international partners presented examples of successful engagement with parliamentarians to push for policy changes. Ms Zoleka Mandela, Global Ambassador for the FIA foundation provided inspiration from the perspective of children, presented the Child Health Initiative and called for parliamentarians to accelerate efforts and ensure that the future generation has an even brighter future. Revised Terms of Reference for the Global Network as well as leadership of the network for 2020 were agreed upon.

2019 Member of Parliament from African countries convene during the SSATP 14th Annual General Meeting

Members of Parliament along with ministers of transport and other international partners convened in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe to collaborate, strengthen partnerships, deliberate and find solutions to address road safety in the African context. Discussions focused on signing of the African Union Road Safety Charter, enforcement concerns and overall regional integration and policy harmonization.

Members of parliament identified opportunities to contribute to reducing road traffic deaths, such as through parliamentary “friends of road safety groups” and engaging with NGOs to support policy changes. Members of parliament expressed commitment to continue pushing for road safety as part of the SDG.
